Position:  Technical Director/Instructor in the Theatre & Film Department

Salary Range: $39,000- $43,600                                                          7.5 hours per day

Minimum Qualifications: 1. Degree in Theatre with emphases in Technical Design

                                            2. Two years teaching experience at the collegiate or high school level

                                            3. Demonstrate skills in technical design for the stage

 

The Governor’s School for the Arts Department of Theatre & Film invites applicants for a full-time instructor position in theatre arts and as the department’s technical director.  The technical director is responsible for all physical aspects of the Theatre & Film Department’s productions including but not limited to:

·      Maintenance of the scene shop and black box theatre

·      Building sets which includes:

o   Technical direction and design for events and productions

o   Purchasing supplies

o   Supervising student crews

 

The position includes teaching up to 20 hours per week such courses as lighting and scenic design, stage management, scene painting, scenic production, carpentry, stage rigging and other courses involving the creation of theatrical productions.  The ideal candidate should possess technical knowledge of all aspects of theatre including set construction, lighting, electrics, sound, carpentry, properties, rigging, computer drafting and theatrical production software.  He/she must also be familiar with OSHA regulations and theatre safety.  The candidate should possess strong organizational, communication and strategic problem-solving skills; the ability to work as a team member with understanding and patience needed in working with high school students.  He/she must be able to lift 50 lbs and climb a ladder in excess of 12 feet with or without accommodations. This position requires extended weekly hours, weekends and evenings.
